Can I get some help 😂
TLDR; need suggestions and help decluttering as I’m highly sensitive to visual stimulus but having some difficulty due to my current situation.
I’ve been experiencing chronic migraines for 7 months and my body is so sensitive to sensory stimulus (primarily visual and auditory). I was assessed for sensory processing disorder and results came back that I do not process sensory input in a “normal” way. I get fatigued very very quickly and often need to nap to help reset my brain. The migraines are increasing these symptoms.
Im trying to reduce clutter so I’m not as visually stimulated but I’m having some difficulties. I’ve always been awful about decluttering, it feels wasteful to me even though I know it really isn’t. I read Marie Kondos book before it was popular and while it was popular. I’ve utilized some of her techniques and found it helpful but at the moment, I just need to reduce things to make life manageable.
The issue is that my place has 0 built in storage (with exception of kitchen cabinets and 3 bathroom drawers), I don’t have a single built in closet. The kitchen is my nemesis, always has been. I’ve reduced my kitchenware to 2 plates and 2 bowls which makes cleanup more manageable. Though I have about 4 glasses and 6 mugs. I use a bookcase as a pantry and I think it could help using containers to make it appear less visually cluttered.
Part of my issue is that due to the migraines, I’ve had to pause on some hobbies that I love and I’ve had to replace them with things I can currently do that are screen free. I have some items to sell, also. I’m also unable to work while im being treated by specialists so I’m hoping to do this without spending on storage options and hopefully making some money by selling items. I know Marie kondo explains how buying storage boxes isn’t needed but with my sensory disorder, having containers that conceal the items and are similar without being bright and colorful is actually something I may need to implement.
Any suggestions or ideas? I know this is such a specific situation but would appreciate guidance and strategies
