And cause a generation gap (by this I mean parents and their kids really not getting along due to parents not understanding their kids’ new way of life) because of it.
For example, in the 1960s and 70s, some teens were running away from home in part due to abuse but also due to feeling like their parents didn’t understand them (and things actually did change a lot in the 60s. Teen girls and young women were dressing a lot differently, there was a lot of innovative music coming out, mainstream drug culture getting a bit more of a start.)
And in the 1920s you have the rebellious flappers, and older people who disapproved of jazz and the flapper lifestyle. Even in the 50s, which many now regard as having been ideal, parents disliked rock n roll music and this caused issues between parents and their teenagers.
