Hell i wished i was a jelly fish or some plant thing from the ediacaran because how stressful life is.
i would admit ive had my fair share of romanticizations especially the 60's. but when I started learning about it. Watchin intelexuals series of 60's and world history on youtube . Wow I'm kind of glad i live in this era. Does today have its short coming, of course, so was then, now, and future.
Everyone's life is subjective. One year, month, day, second could be good for you but that doesn't apply to everyone.
What exactly is the goal here of this subreddit. You can't predict life itself, its too chaotic. Sure we can look back at history and see comparisons. Did people ever see the foreshadowing of the 1940's of the giant nuclear bomb? Not at all. Or birth control pill, it was probably within the works. There's so many interconnected undercurrents that are waiting to be collides with the present.
From what I'm reading from these threads is comparisons to then and now. The decade that would have been great for someone in one year was hell for another.
Life was great if you were white middle class in the 50's. But anyone outside of it. It was shit.
I am gusse the age demographics of this subreddit is young adults, or teens. We live world where its kinda shit because of late stage capitalism, lack of third places, the economy, You know i get it I understand. It almost feels like there no future. Because of neoliberalism and late stage capitalism.
There's too much of survivors ship bias takes,
ex: OMG THE X had the best culture.
You know there was terrible music ,art, movies right? Even then that was subjective. a piece of work that came out flopped hard and failed, because it either was ahead of its time, or it just sucked.
go to your local dollar store general, and look at the cheap movies and books that nobody has ever heard of.
What I am getting at is, go outside, live life, make, be, change the culture. we romanticize the past but are we present? i bet in 4,8,10 20 years from now. Someone is gonna romanticize or have a caricature of our era and wants to live in our time.
There's more i could write or there's more nuances and discussion to be had but its mad late for me.
This is coming from a place of being annoyed with nostalgia culture. There's a good book called the Disappearance of childhood by neil postman.
