Set up internet on Debian 1.1 inside VM (no DHCP)

Hi, i have a very stupid idea, i want to make a VM of debian 1.1, and attempt to upgrade it all the way to 11.

Anyway, i got the installation stuff for debian 1.1 and got it running. However, since i am such a youngster and have used DHCP all my life, and 1.1 quite obviously doesn't support DHCP, i have no idea how to set it up. Like, at all.

I tried copying information from ip but that didn't work. i looked up help from the interwebs and that didn't work. So now, I'm stuck with a debian 1.1 installation without any internet, so no way to do the upgrades.

So, people with more knowledge of the time before DHCP, please provide me with your wisdom, o great ones!
