Rereading Death Note reminded me of how dumb the series sometimes is lmao
Post Body

Like I love it, 9/10 manga for sure but my god its all kind of dumb when you think for more than a minute about it lmao

Rey Pemper has his actual ID on him? Why do they have their IDs on them, why not have fake names on them if you know youre investigating people who can kill with names? Why didn't Rey Pemper tell L what happened in the bus, the information that he gave his name away should be treated as crucial. You could say Rey is just very, very, very, very dumb but even so Light should of known better because if Rey told L about it like he was supposed to then Light would of been shit out of luck because it would be obvious who Kira is after Reys death.

Light meets Naomi because he happens to drop of clothes, I know they try to make it a theme of evil having luck on its side with Aizawa not noticing Light at the end but like.. it's still kind of dumb, like seriously clothes?

L removing the cameras was dumb, Light is your main suspect, might as well keep them and not tell anyone.

Light trusting Ryuk that all cameras are gone is stupid, if Ryuk missed just one then Light would of been caught after a few seconds considering they would of seen him throw an apple to no one only for it to float around.

Mello not having pieces of the notebook with him is dumb. If you gave me a Death Note the first thing I would test is if pages still work after being ripped out and I am no 200 IQ mastermind like Mello. Why didn't he test it, see it works and keep pages on him/hide them somewhere just in case?

The whole ending doesnt make sense if you break it down, its a big "I knew you thought you were one step ahead" but it doesnt make sense for Near.
Light wants Near to believe that his plan is to kill him at the yellow box and wants him to replace certain pages (for some reason Near doesnt forge the whole book at this point like he did in his actual plan but whatever) so that Near believes that he is save. So you would think that Near believes that Lights whole plan is just "I invite Near to a place, have Mikami see him without him knowing and then kill him" with no strings attached. But Near says that "Light probably already knows that I found Mikami" ...what? Near figured out that Light wanted him to find Mikami? But if Near figured that out then why go forth with the page switch plan? If he knows that Light accounted for him finding Mikami before the meet up then obviously Lights plan doesnt end there because why would Light WANT Near to know about and find the person that he wants to kill Near with? It would of made sense if Near just assumed that Light didn't plan for him to figure the whole X-Kira thing out but Near knowing that Light knows makes the whole thing just confusing and dumb.

Light and Mikami writing that Takada would burn to death is stupid, they should of just made her eat the paper and die naturally. Because if Takada wasn't able to set a fire (which they had no way of knowing considering she was locked in a truck) then Lights plan would of failed. Not to mention how DID she start a fire? I assume with the gas of the motorcycle and the phone? Maybe? Somehow? I mean I am sure it is possible but like I wouldn't know how and if Takada didn't know then the Death Note would of just killed her with a heart attack because you can only make people do things they could reasonably come up with on their own. Light sure is lucky that Takada had gas and a phone in the back of the truck and had the knowlage to set a fire with it. Because otherwise she would of died of a heart attack and Near would of found the pages.

Also staying with Takada, Light should of known that Near thinks he is fishy now. Mello died of a heart attack, I dont care that his body burned, a doctor could still tell you that he originally died of a heart attack and you can assume that Near probably did something like that considering how weird the situation of Mello taking Takada and then just burning up randomly is. Near knows that Light and Mikami dont know how Mello looks like otherwise he'd be dead. But now after Takada saw him he suddenly dies of a heart attack? Reasonably you can conclude that Takada has pages on her then because she was the only one of the Kira group whoever saw his face and he died moments after they met. But Light didnt think that far. I guess you can say he is "blinded by arrogance" again but I dont know about that one.

I could go on the entire day, I love Death Note to bits and it has smart moments for sure, but it also has a lot of style over substance.
