Battle Report: Urban Conquest of Opkendiac 3
Post Body

Hello fellow legionnaires! This past weekend my friends started an Urban Conquest campaign and I am running Death Guard as one may guess. The first game was 1000 points and we played a mission from the book using the Cities of Death rules on top. It was my first game in half a year and against a good friend of mine and it was a lot of fun. I thought I would share the battle report with you fine folk.

I forgot the name of the mission but the winning condition was whoever held the most objectives. Also objectives were held by whoever captured them and they could move off the objective but it would still be under their control. The opposing player had to take it for themselves to own the objective. 5 turns with variable length end, 6 objectives, 4 by 4 board.

My list: Daemon prince with wings and two sets of talons Necrosius the Undying 5 plague marines with plasma champion, and 2 plasma guns 5 plague marines with plasma champion, and 2 blight launchers 20 poxwalkers Foul Blightspawn Myphetic blighthauler Plagueburst Crawler with spitters

His list: New Phobos armor Captain Regular librarian 3 units of 5 Primaris intercessors 3 plasma inceptors 3 suppressors (new auto cannon dudes) Redemptor dreadnaught Thunderfire cannon

We set up, he holds the two flyer units in reserves and seizes the initiative.

Turn 1: He captures two objectives, moves his units around, and does a lot of shooting after moving his redemptor up the middle. Only one poxwalker dies. Hard Cover in cities of death is great, adds 2 to saves. My plague marines weathers a whole lot of shots. I move my pores up to capture and objective and captured one in my deployment. I do some maneuvering and shooting and a good chunk of one intercessor squad dies to flaming death from the plagueburst.

Turn 2: Suppressors and Inceptors come down and with a ton of overcharged plasma and rerolls the plagueburst dies horribly. A couple more poxes die and the redemptor is breathing down my neck. My turn I manage to shoot some more intercessors and my prince charges into the captain. Unfortunately the captain had something to do invuln saves on a 3 for a turn and saved everything. He brought his librarian into the fray but thanks to the plate they take mortal wounds instead.

Turn 3: Welp, my prince is shot back to the warp after the captain and librarian beat feet. The redemptor charges into my poxes and starts to wipe them out bit by bit. My blightspawn enacts his revenge by melting the inceptors. I reach another objective with my blight launcher plague marines. I also manage to inflict a couple of wounds on the redemptor with incredibly lucky rolls from the poxes.

Turn 4: Some more maneuvering and hiding from my friend and the redemptor slaps some more poxes into the ground. My blightspawn takes some shots and is down to his last wound. My turn I dance around and melt another intercessor squad with the super flamer from hell and my blighthauler charges the librarian. Surprisingly he manages to eat him up.

Turn 5: The suppressors move down and shoot up most of the plague marines holding the latest objective. His captain charges the blighthauler but does no wounds. The redemptor takes my once mighty horde down to 1 last pox walker. My turn I manage to get my blightspawn onto an objective and melt the last hiding intercessor, allowing me to hold it. Combat goes and miraculously the dread failed to kill the last pox. I held 4 objectives to his 2. If the game ends now I win. If we go on he can kill my plague marines and my poxes and take those two objectives. He rolls a 2 and the Death Guard take the win!

I forgot how much fun the game is with a good opponent. My friend is a great guy and is always a blast to play against. I forgot a few critical things: rerolls with the prince and not realizing the cover fog from the blighthauler did not stack with all the cover from cities of death (as in I assume they would and they didn’t. I didn’t cheat in the game.) As much as I love that model I may not use him later in the campaign since getting cover in cities of death is not very difficult. Necrosius is great in my opinion. Can deny more times, which helped me a few times in this game, gives the poxes a rerolls of 1’s on disgustingly resilient, and having more flexibility on spells is wonderful. This was my first time using the blightspawn and I love that mega flamer.

All in all it was a great way to get back to playing. I look forward to refining my lists in the campaign and hopefully will keep up a good fight. Thanks for reading and have a nice day!
