Having a really hard time building a list with battle forge on warhammer+

I've never played but I've managed to get about 1500 points worth of death guard (I think) I have
•1 Lord Felthius and The Tainted Cohort •1 Combat Patrol •1 Mortarion •1 blight hauler •1 The Tally man
I have no idea how Detachments work, or how like Lord Felthius and the Tainted Cohort work, I assume he acts as a normal lord of contagion but idl how to add his terminators to his squad, it's all very non-frindly to new people.
