A fourth and final season (more or less)
Post Body

And please, feel free to add your own minutia or tweaks or even build upon this

A little while ago I posted on here asking if they had planned how many seasons deadwood was supposed to be and the consensus seemed to say four seasons

And while I do think in this alternate universe they very much still would've (and should've) reunited some 10 odd years later for a movie, here's what I think the fourth and final season could've looked like.

Season four picks up after the elections, with sol being elected mayor and Harry being elected sheriff. The idea of Harry being sheriff of course bothers Bullock, not because Harry is crooked like Stapleton was or anything like that (Harry does mean well) but more due to Harry's inadvertent ineptitude stemming from his inexperience at times, as well as being more preoccupied with the fire wagon at other times with Tom nuttal. Hearst, having left the camp for Montana and leaving Tolliver in charge of all non mining business interests of his in the camp, has now sent someone to act as surrogate for his mining interests in his stead. This pairing of Tolliver and this new man to oversee Hearst's complete ventures within the camp seems in some ways to recall that of Tolliver and Wolcott in season 2, but whereas Wolcott was more the calm collected with a hidden sinister side type, this new man is more brazen and with a temper, sometimes leading to openly violent consequences. I see this person almost being a parallel to bullock

Unfortunately for Harry being sheriff, it isn't so long before he's caught in Hearst's wake, having to choose between joining to act out Hearst's actions in his stead (or at least turn the other cheek when others do so) or die. This of course was a decision in a way Tolliver already had to make and we've seen the hard wire he walks between these two choices at time. Eventually the line walking begins to wear on Tolliver and Harry both, moreso harry as he feels torn between all his obligations and again, well meant but constant ineptitude. Also the constant disappointment and hostility expressed as others begin to witness the line walking harry attempts to do here, sometimes siding with or acting out for Hearst at the worst moments. Midway through the season I imagine harry is killed, much in the same manner he was the film, having been torn between all those worlds and acting on a stupid errand for Hearst that gets him killed. It also around this point, again mid season, that Hearst returns leading to the almost mirror reflection standoff and sendoff between Al and Hearst, and Bullock and this new mystery character.

Again, I'm all for hearing others fill in the blanks or adding more to this. I would definitely like to see teddy Roosevelt make an appearance late season as well!
