Chapter 3 of the tome is out and the first survivor task doesn't make sense

It asks you to get 5 Unbroken emblems of gold quality or better. But the only way to get gold on that emblem is to escape, if you die in the trial the best you can get is silver. So it's just escape 5 times. Or am I missing something?
