Can someone explain why would any survivor heal at the exit gate?

I’ve been through SO MANY ridiculous moments where survivors with missing chromosomes decide to go heal at the exit gate while their teammates are being chased/downed. The first instinct of any killer is to chase you out. I don’t get why this bad habit is still a thing.
