So last night I found out that my little is living in a very, very unsafe environment. She has a male roommate, and he has anger issues- he often interrupted our calls and has generally been mean to her for little to no reason.

Last night while we were talking, he came into her room and she suddenly hung up. When she called back later, I found out that he had got mad when he saw she was on the phone. He asked who was calling and she wouldn't tell him, and he hit her in the face. Not like with an open hand, like a fist. This is a grown ass man acting like an abusive partner even though they aren't together. To make matters worse, this isn't the first time apparently. Also the only lock for her room is on the outside, and he has the key.

My God, this is so scary. I'm really, really worried about her. She's several states north of me, so I can't exactly be there to protect her. I think she should go to the police, but I don't want her to risk retaliation or losing her housing in the process.

Does anybody have any advice at all? I'm really torn up. I can't understand why anyone would evevr hurt her. She's such a kind and pleasant person, it just doesn't make sense to me.I'm supposed to keep her safe, but that is really difficult at a distance. I can't bear the thought of anything else happening to her, but the best I can do is help her make a plan, buy her a stun gun or some pepper spray, and maybe a set of locks that I could help her install over video while he's gone. I would do anything to keep her safe.
