Do enemies cheat?

Hey!
i just had the typical situation where i open a door and there's sigmund like 7 Tiles away from the door but he saw me. So i closed the door and there were 3 available options where to run to. By the time he came to the tile that i had been on he couldn't have known which route i went, but somehow he chose the right one... am i just unlucky there or do enemies know my position when chasing?
