Tips please!

Hi all, I've started playing DAW:DC with friends, and we usually play space marines/imperial roley playey games vs orks and others.
I usually play the race that gets Baneblade (Imperial?) Any tips or strategies to help me be stronger. Played 2 games, had to be carried by my friend and his dreadnaughts.
I don't want this to happen again.
