Ever since the CB refresh hit live, there has been quite some hatred about how it was done . And i wont go against that as i hate the way they handled it as well , just that i wanted to add some thoughts and ideas on how i would like the cb refresh to be (a general idea anyway) : the combos and their different meanings .
As we all know, PL wanted to stop the way CB worked : 1 all powerful combo (LLRL) leading to dps special generation , coupled with an extremely effective way to dodge behemoths with reaper dance, without having the need to manage stamina . Everything together made for a very fast and nervous gameplay .
Which led to the current iteration , being that instead of 1 combo doing all the above, you are stuck with ... 1 obligatory combo that is atrociously slow (and ugly) , still quite stationnary (debatable) , poor momentum generation, and most of all : the only weapon that cannot do the combo when you are at 0 stamina .
Long ago, there was this problem too with the pile, where the wounding multi hits combo was draining stamina as well, and when you had 0, you couldnt do more than a few hits . PL adressed this by simply removing the cost on it .
The LLLL combo serves as a special that builds momentum (1 bar for a full combo, thats quite shitty imo) and as a way to get back your so now needed stamina .
The RRR as everyone said is clunky, feels totally useless, and was put in place of a never used combo (nothing was good on this old combo, except for the range)
Problem with all this is that we have 1 combo for momentum stamina regeneration, 1 combo for DPS, and one combo with bad dps bad wounding
Lets take for example the pike :
-the light combo gives the wounding stamina regeneration
-the heavy combo gives very good DPS special generation
And thats it, there arent 4 differents combos for different things, and people were happy with it .
Now that i said all this, here is how i see an alternative :
- make the LLLRL combo into a LLLholdL combo the same way than the pike, for a fast momentum generation stamina regeneration . If you dont like the idea of this combo not costing stam, keep the old LLLRL but have it being the optimal momentum generation combo .
- give us back the LLRL combo for the quickness of it the DPS . Poor momentum generation if you want us to alternate with the 1st combo . Maybe make it be the new RRR combos .
- if you absolutely want the CB to wound, make it so it wounds as well as the pike, or its useless . Make it so it wound on the LLLRL combo or on the LLRL (or RRR new combo) as you see fit .
- fix the momentum slam, hitboxes are wonky enough that it doesnt need to spend the orbs on a missed slam .
