Dealing with seeing each other less than you want?
Post Body

One of the main issues I've had with dating over thirty is the lack of time, especially for things like just "hanging out." How do others deal with this or find time for one and other.

My new BF of about 2 months lives about a 45 min drive from me, in a a small town on the other side of my city. He doesn't have a car so it's maybe 1.5hr by public transport. He comes into the city centre about twice a week for work (it's sort of a halfway point - 20 min for me by bus about 40 for him), we often meet for dinner these evenings which is great but sometimes it feels very formal. Sometimes he comes back to mine after but goes home as I only have a single bed (thank you, housing crisis) so it's not ideal for sharing if we both have work in the morning.

On the weekends I tend to go out to him but realistically I can't go every weekend. And while it's lovely we often end up going out to eat anyway because of his housemates.

We did a weekend away which was lovely. While we did have activities it was so nice to just have time to hang out in the hotel room, chatting, watching tv. It felt closer to being an actual couple, not just "dating."

Then of course there's just finding time. I often only have one evening free a week and since things started getting more serious with him I've been finding it difficult to keep on top of basic things like laundry and groceries. He doesn't have his own children but has a very unwell sibling so spends a lot of time with his nieces and I obviously don't begrudge him that or want to impede that at all.

It just worries me a little - I would've expected we'd be seeing eachother 2 or 3 times a week at this stage but really it's only once every 10 days or so. Can that work long term? Or short of moving, which really just isn't an option right now what can I do? I thinking of suggesting we start calling each other, as up to now we've only texted but I'm not sure...

EDIT: Just to add, I of course would have gotten a bigger bed if I could. There isn't really space in the room. I asked the landlord about a double loft bed but he said he'd want the original bed back when I move out so I'd have to find somewhere to store it. I also wish I could move for many, many reasons but there is such a housing shortage it's not really an option.
