I attended Bumble’s online Speed Date event yesterday evening. In response to the ubiquitous question of what are you looking for, I had an impromptu flash of clarity…
“I’m looking for the person who will be in a long term relationship with me.”
This felt like the most accurate way I could summarize my own dating intentions. It always felt disingenuous whenever I said I was looking for a relationship of a certain pre-specified length before I even had a first date with someone!
My new answer felt more present than any others I had ever muttered.
I NEVER know beforehand if I’ll have just 1 date with somebody or 100. And frankly, just because I get through date 26 doesn’t mean that date 27 is guaranteed.
EDIT: Changing my quote to… “I’m looking for the person I can be in a long term relationship with.”
