I [47M] had a lady friend suggest that I pose this question to a Reddit community. I don’t know how much context is necessary, you’re welcome to look at my previous posts. Simply put, Together for 22 years, married for the last 16, and in the stages of finalizing the divorce agreement on paper. Once it’s done, it goes to a judge and we have to wait at least 90 days for a divorce to be final. We have a house that we have to sell, two kids, that we split custody with and two dogs. We’ve been amicably coparenting while living separately for 3 months, and split up since November. I used to tell people to wait one month for every year that you were together, but for me to wait 22 months seems unbearable, since I felt alone and neglected for the last several years of a marriage. How do you know when you’re ready?
