I just started seeing someone a month ago. We both weren't looking for a relationship, having met through our hobby where we'd see each other weekly. As time went by, we got to know each other, and he asked me out. The chemistry is there, and when we're alone, we can't keep our hands off each other, like teens, lol. But for different reasons, we both have agreed that we are not ready for a serious relationship and we're going to enjoy each other's company right now.
He is a single father, raising three kids on his own, and he does everything for them so it doesn't leave him with much discretionary income. I'd like to buy him a gift ($225) that he could use for his hobby - I know he wants it because we were together when we looked at it. But he won't buy it for himself.
I really like him and I think he would love to have it, but he's a little old fashioned (he always pays when we go out - won't let me) so I don't want him to feel uncomfortable. But I am known to be generous amongst my friends.
For the men here, would it bother you if a woman bought you an expensive gift ("just because") after you've only been seeing her for a month?
For those who ask how I would feel if it was reversed, I'd be happy since I do like him. :)
UPDATE: I've decided I'm going to wait till after Valentine's (so there's no association or hint of V Day) and see how we're doing. If things are still going strong, I'll pull the trigger and get him the gift. Thanks all for your great feedback.
