Post Body

When I was still a young college student, I was sitting in the hallways like everybody else, waiting for the class to begin. I overheard a conversation, between the students and the professor. And the professor was talking about a couple that he knew, with mixed political backgrounds. In that coupledom, one person was Republican and the other was Democrat, and one rule of the house was to NOT talk about politics. But the couple's marriage seemed to be long-lasting.

It is worthy to mention because, well, Republicans and Democrats never seem to see eye to eye nowadays. They don't agree with anything politically, and by that, that extends to their own sense of morality, worldview, values, etc.

I just brought up the Republican/Democrat issue because the Republicans and Democrats are 2 major parties of the USA, with other parties having no political power at all.

Another potential conflict that may arise would be between 2 people, with 1 person having bad narratives of the other person's homeland country before the other person became a US citizen and the other 1 person having good narratives or neutral narratives of the homeland country, and if the person is ever for the other country, that means he/she is also anti-US, thus a national traitor to the US. But if the other person genuinely supports the US and goes against the homeland country publicly, the person will essentially be back-stabbing the homeland. This kind of conflict between 2 commoners / ordinary people may rise when a person comes from a US-hostile nation and will have to take on the US side. People who do back-stab on their own homelands do merge well with US society, but people who sympathize with their homelands may become perceived as the traitors against US society and government. (I don't want to name any country outright because people here may have their own conceptions of XYZ country based on what they have seen/heard in the media, in the current news, and when they interact with the people who actually support their own homelands, they think to themselves that the people are brainwashed by their own governments.)

Have you ever dated someone with completely different political beliefs from you and you and the other person never seem to see eye to eye on just about anything, and then you wonder to yourself if you are really brainwashed or if the other person is brainwashed based on the consumption of separate media, separate narratives, separate communities?
