Needing help in regards to just getting out there.

Most of my life was spent living in small towns, so there isnt much to speak off when it came to dating especially because I had more pressing matters to deal with, but recently I moved to larger town in a different state and do want to get myself out there. On the other hand though, I dont know if I even should, due to me joining the military I feel like it would just be a mistake. Also, my experience in dating is extremely limited.
Any advice or suggestion are appreciated, and thank you in advance.
