Unrequited love is no fun for sure but it is a fact of life. What I don't understand is why women feel the need to tell a guy "they just want to be friends" when they decide they are not interested in more than friendship. I've seen them do this not long after they meet but worse I've seen situations where the girl dates a guy for a few months and then tries to friendzone him. This is the one I have the big problem with. Why not just let him go so he can heal and get over you? Do yo think he wants to go have coffee with you so you can tell him all about the new guy you are dating? I h ad this happen to me years ago and when I told her I did not want to be friends she actually had the nerve to call me selfish. Hanging on so someone in a capacity that is less than what that person wants with you is very selfish. Be a grownup and let them go.
