Need opinions

So I have this friend (32m) who met this girl (28f) online. They hit it off with some good conversation, said they connected on an emotional level and talked about if they should go further.

Well my friend said he needed some time because it had only been a week since they started talking. She asked questions that seemed like gold digger questions like “would you pay for my flight back?” And when he said no, he can’t afford to yet. Then she popped back with things like “well I can’t commit time, energy, and resources into someone who isn’t willing to put resources into me”.

They haven’t met, they haven’t dated, they haven’t even talked over voice chat yet. What’s up with this? Is she really a gold digger in hiding? I don’t even know how to respond to my friend with advice. So I figured I’d come here and ask for it to give him.
