43M here. Several times, I have had friends express surprise that I haven't dated in a while, and some of their comments are along the lines of, but you have such a good job/income, you own a great house, etc. Although I am an open book if asked, I have never discussed finances in my dating profile or brought up the topic spontaneously.
It has always seemed kind of gross to volunteer that info before I've gotten to know someone better. It's a bit like, if a woman says on her profile that her kink involves stovepipe hats, I will drop an oblique Lincoln reference in my first message, but otherwise I don't bring up sex until there's at least been some flirting.
Am I right to leave finances out of my dating profile and first messages, or should I sprinkle in subtle hints that I've done okay for myself? If so, what's a non-gross way to do it?
