I never tell women exactly what I do for work because I feel like people make assumptions about you based on what job you have. Do you disagree?
Post Body

For example, say my job was being a "Software Engineer". I would guess over 50% of people would assume that I'm nerdy and/or don't have great social skills. Do you know what I mean? Even if that assumption doesn't make sense or isn't true.

So, if a woman ever asks me what I do for a job I just say which company I work for and then give a general name. Like this "I work for Amazon. I just do general engineering type work there basically. It involves a bunch of things that are business and engineering related". I have a public LinkedIn site if she really cared she could just look at that anyways.

One time in college I was in the library for engineers and I overheard a girl on the floor below me say on the phone "I'm in the engineering library so there's probably not much eye candy here ahahahah".

Comments

I'm a woman and I'm really compatible with software engineers and guys working in IT, and I like quiet introverts. They have plenty of social skills but also a personality which tends to be comparable with myself.
