So this happened about 2 hours ago. I (M27) was in doing some Christmas shopping for my mom and brother and I was in the toy/sports section and I saw these two women. One was older and the other looked like she was about my age. I thought she was really cute and then I noticed she grabbed a basketball and started to do some between the legs dribbles. It wasn’t very good but she was able to do a couple moves.

I thought I would use this as a way to approach her since I love basketball. So I approached and I said “Hey I saw you over here dribbling and just had to come over…” She immediately started laughing and said she used to play and that she sucks and stopped playing in 8th grade. She also said that her and the other woman she was with coach little girls basketball. I told her that I used to play a lot in high school but that I tore my achilles recently and haven’t been able to play.

I asked her is she was single and she smiled and said that she was. I then asked if I could have her number and she said “sure”. I mentioned that maybe we could shoot some free throws together. She then asked me what year I graduated HS and I said 2014. She then told me that she graduated in 2017. She said ok cool, I think she was worried that I might have been too young bc I accidentally misspoke about reading my Achilles and playing basketball in high school.

Just want to know if anyone has any advice on this situation for me. I always overthink on how soon I should text them after I get their number and what I should say as my first text.
