Title is pretty self-explanatory, but for a few more details: I have feelings for my best friend and have for just under a year. She and her ex-boyfriend were together for about two and a half years and I promised myself I wouldn't interfere with her relationship as long as she was happy. Since they're no longer together (they broke up over differing life goals), I figure I should admit I realized I have feelings for her. A couple of small notes:
She has always told me that she prefers to date men that are already her friends beforehand.
She got over her ex in record time. It was less than a week, which I'm not sure is good or bad news.
She's recently been flirting with me a lot more, talking about what kind of guy she looks for (which makes mention of my occupation), saying I'm on a "special list" but never expounding on that, she started opening up about how unsatisfying her sex life was with her last boyfriend.
But then she's also giving me mixed signals, like telling mutual friends (when I was in the room) that she usually doesn't date anyone for six months after a break-up.
They broke up at the very end of last month.
Am I way overthinking this? I feel like the longer I talk to her without telling her how I feel, the more I am lying to her. At this point, I feel confident that, even if she doesn't reciprocate my feelings, we'd still stay friends, so I have nothing to lose. But I'd still rather talk to her about it at a time that would most likely lead to success with this.
So what's the standard time? Or even just the best time?
