I've been dealing with a situation since my breakup about a month ago. We were talking occasionally, but I kept pushing her away because she already had a boyfriend. Even when she said things like, "No, I love you. I still do," I felt like I had to respond with lies to prevent giving her false hope. One day, I received a text from her that said something shocking about her cat, and I was taken aback. When I asked about it, she explained that it was her new boyfriend texting her that. I wondered why she was sharing these texts with me. She told me he was being very toxic towards her. I responded with, "Okay," but the situation continued for the next few weeks. She got into a huge fight with her boyfriend and sent me pictures related to it, saying she needed to spend time with me. I reminded her that she had a boyfriend, but she would get really upset with me for bringing him up. She insisted that she didn’t care about her boyfriend and told me to stop mentioning him. I questioned why she was still dating him if that was the case. I pointed out that I was in a relationship too, and she just stopped talking to me after that. However, I kept receiving messages about how toxic her boyfriend was.
