As I write this, I figure that it's noteworthy to give a little background -
For the last 3 months, I was seeing a wonderful woman who ticked all the right boxes. Every day spent together was better than the last, and it felt as if we had known each other for decades not just a few months.
Just a few hours ago, I received a simple text from her stating that "she isn't in the right headspace for a relationship and needs to reflect emotionally". Now, in my younger years, I probably would've been distraught, clinging to the potential future that could have been with this great lady. I'm hoping a couple fresh thoughts here might help others who are going/about to go through something like this.
- Most important: it is out of your control. Whoever your (ex) partner is, they are an individual and have the right to exercise free will at any time.
- Use the break-up to become better. Be kind in your response, and politely ask them (if possible) for personal feedback on how to become a better future partner for someone.
- Ex: "Out of curiosity, was there something specific on my part that lead to this? I value your thoughts and would appreciate your help in self-reflecting/being a better person moving forward"
- You can't change the past. Life goes on, right? Time goes forward with or without you, so you might as well push on. Added benefit? Whatever emotions you feel will lessen over time.
- Reset, recharge, and get back out there. It is a MASSIVE world with many amazing people for you. It's not "soulmate or nothing". There may be a "perfect one" for us all (can't rule it out since there's no real way to know), but it's not a binary system of "this one person over everyone else".
Since I know people tend to have short attention spans these days, I'll leave it there lol. Just make sure to stay optimistic :) dating should be fun!
