I'm a 39 year-old Persian American guy who has been single for 12 years. Up until a little over a month ago I had dating profiles on Ok Cupid, Bumble, Tinder, Plenty of Fish, Hinge and even Facebook Dating. Unfortunately all of my experiences have been lame, bizarre or downright terrible, for one reason or another. I deleted every one of my apps because I hadn't had an actual date in well over five years and everyone I was matching with was either a bot/spam/a scammer or someone that I wasn't attracted to on any level whatsoever. In the end I was utilizing the Glenn Quagmire approach to online dating (swiping right on everyone), only in my case as soon as I would match with someone she wouldn't be my type (every single time) and I would un-match her immediately.
I am a very shy person with low-to-non-existent self-esteem, partially stemming from the fact that I'm hideous looking and possess the intellectual capacity of a bag of rotting goat fecal matter that was recently slung at a wall in a rage by a clown that was strung out on pcp. The only times that I can talk to women are when I find common ground with them (i.e. geeky hobbies/interests like comic books, comic book movies/TV shows, sports, or my love of drug jokes); at work because where I work at everyone is nice to everyone (even if they are just smiling at me through gritted teeth to keep up appearances); or with my mum because she's awesome/my best friend/the only woman in this world who genuinely gives a damn about me. For this reason every single ex-girlfriend I had asked me out first.
Should I just give up at this juncture? I'm 6'2", 265 pounds, am partially bald, look like I haven't slept in a month (due to severe sleep apnea), have the back posture of a 90 year-old man, and have nothing going for me aside from a modest condo in a great neighborhood/city, a state job and my two cats. If I can't find someone through online dating and the conventional approach doesn't work because I don't know how to talk to women to save my life, is there any point to even trying anymore? Also, I am child-free and intend on staying that way for life. That probably hampers my efforts as well (though my looks don't help matters in the slightest bit).
