Making a backup "snapshot" of a server
Post Body

Hey guys, I don't really know if this is the right sub or which sub would be more fitting, but this is my problem:

We have an ages old WinSrv2012R2 with an even older WinCRM6 (I think) system running on it. I found nobody who could help me restore data from this system in case that it breaks. So I made a full snapshot of the VM and stored it on an HP LTO 4 magnetic band.

The database is read only, which hopefully makes this all a bit easier.

It now happens that our company has to change domain and I really don't know if the ages old CRM system can handle this and thus I would like to set it all up on a PC to use the system kind of like a terminal.

We use Veeam Backup&Restoration 11 and I found that I can restore full VMs from backups. This is my plan. But I don't really know if I then need a new key for the Win2012R2 server and if it all would work as intended. And can I then use this PC offline with no connection to any web (neither intra- nor internet) and without access to the domain?

Does anyone have experience with this kind of situation? Would be great if you could help me there, thanks a lot!
