The Dash logo debate has shown how inadequate our Treasury system actually is when it comes to Governance questions. The response options yes/no/abstain are too restrictive when it comes to more complex questions and paying 5 Dash just to ask the network’s opinion on anything isn't really feasible.
To vastly improve our Governance system we require a tool to cheaply and efficiently gauge the opinion of Masternode owners. (Pre-)proposal owners, developers, investors and service providers are all likely to utilize such a tool to acquire strategic and essential information directly from the network.
This is an RFP or „request for proposal“ to any developer capable of delivering on these requirements. After input from Dash developer Nathan Marley I can safely suggest using the codebase he created for the Trust Protector Election. This should bring down development costs significantly.
- Poll consists of question, response options, tags, optional: submitter name
- Anyone can submit a poll question for a small fee
- The fee is used as spam deterrent but also to pay for the blockchain tx necessary to submit the poll question to the network. Also the developer may use it to support himself.
- Polls submitted by a person with a blockchain username pay a lower fee than an anonymous submitter to further deter spamming
- Different response types are possible like binary yes/no, multiple choice, sliding scales (like from 1 to 10 for example), etc.
- MNOs submit their votes the same way budget votes are submitted today with the respective voting keys
- The initial set up of the polling tool by the voter requires providing voting keys for later use but after that usage is entirely GUI-driven
- Poll submitters may hashtag their polls but also the voters (for a tiny fee to mitigate useless tags like „dumb“ etc.)
- Polls may be filtered through said hashtags
- Polls can be sorted by date, submitter, popularity as gauged by response rate and other criteria I’m missing
- (nice to have) The tool automatically visualizes poll responses
Until Dash's DAPI release the tool could start off as self-contained application with centralized services storing the database. Final destination however should be integration in to the Dashpay wallet as an extra tab. All data is then stored on DashDrive. The tab should list all available polls and offer all the above features from submitting to voting to visualizing results.
Whoever builds this first and does it well will not only become famous within our community, but also revolutionize our Governance system catapulting us even further ahead of the competition.
Expected question: Why are you not building this yourself you lazy f*?
Because my coding days are ancient history. I rather give some guiding ideas to people much more talented than me in that regard.
