Why does Sword Master aggro on you?

Ok so there are fan theories here and there for other NPCs Aggro'ing on you. The 3 dudes that try to gank you at the top of the Archives right before the stairway to the princes, for instance, each represent a branch of the Kingdom of Lothric that was once allied to you but has since changed their mind upon realizing that you intend to kill the princess (IE: go against the crown). But I can't find anything about the Swordmaster, and it's weird that he's allied to you only after you defeat him.

Is there any lore on this that I'm missing??
