A question that I was asked by a host today that I've never really given much deep thought into. I guess I'd have to say its a number of reasons. #1 I enjoy the challenge, I love the hunt, yes I enjoy the occasional grief kill but 99% of the time I'm after a really good fight #2 Every invasion is different and requires different thinking depending on what weapon the host has, if they have phantoms, where they are etc, and #3 this one I just kinda came to the realization of this and it's why I decided to write all this down. Reason #3 has to do with the very first time I got invaded is DS1. I was trying to farm souls to upgrade my weapon (Uchi) (yes I killed the vendor) because Gargoyles were kicking my ass. I was in undead parish pretty proud of myself able to backstab fish the balder knights when I saw the message (Invaded by dark spirit), I had no idea what this was at the time and when I saw that red guy running up from the bridge I knew it was a real person. Of course I tried to circle strafe backstab him to no success and was subsequently 1 shot by a if I remember correctly a BKH. I remember being kinda upset but that lasted only a few minutes, it quickly turned into motivation. I thought "F*** that guy".... "that guy can probably beat the gargoyles"...."He's not better than me just has better gear" and from there I knew i had to beat this boss, I eventually did but at every road block I thought about that invader and how much I wanted to get that strong so i could get him back (I had no clue how invasions worked). I remember falling in love with the game during this time getting lost and completely entranced by it. In a weird way I owe this invader for helping me fall in love with what it now my all time favorite franchise and I don't even remember his/her name. So in a sum up of that long winded trip down memory lane, I invade because in a weird way I want to be someone else's motivation, I want to ( if to only even one person) be the "F*** that guy" person that makes someone want to conquer the game like I did.
