In my opinion this is hard while the base game is challenging
I noticed this in the Painted World that the DLCs love mobbing you with enemies. It happened a few times in the base game but it was never that bad but it seems to be the main gimmick in the dlcs. The bosses I've fought so far all utilized multiple enemies which is not something I love but whatever. And it got turned to 11 in TRC.
You go from fighting a few enemies, to having the turtles track you with their spells while being attacked by a knight, to having 7 of those huge enemies and the small ones who grab you or throw lightening. And the only way I could reasonably take them down is to waste time luring them one by one to ledges and dropping on them.
I realized how bat shit this was getting when at a certain point I was in a 7 way battle btw myself, one of those huge guys, a knight, 2 of the lighting throwing guys, a NPC invader, the scenery randomly blocking my rolls, and the camera.
And the judicator was annoying enough on the stairs but even worse in the swamp (bc the stairs felt more like a puzzle specifically designed for him) with a wide open space and all the bugs who can grab you by jumping above your field of view and grabbing you through a shield. And bc of him you can't even just run past the area bc of the archers.
So many of the enemies have these staggering, long reaching, long lasting, and powerful combos. And when there are numerous amounts at once you can't even attack without getting caught in a whirlwind of attacks. And with the camera being to close in the see what's going on.
What I don't understand is what's expected of me. In Bloodbourne they would do shit like this but you moved and healed so fast and the blood rally system made it a lot more manigable. You also had the hunter's axe that had a dedicated yeet R2 function for huge groups (none of the weapons in DS3 are fast enough for this even with a similar moveset).
The only way I see to do it is to meticulously take out every enemy slowly, which is really trying my patience and felt like I was playing a crappy medieval version of the Arkham Games. I never feel accomplished when I get through the area just relieved.
I never loved when they'd throw multiple enemies at you in souls but this is the most extreme I've seen it (I haven't played DS2 where I hear it's like half the game). I never felt like the mechanics worked well for it but it almost feels like I'm doing something wrong now bc it's so oppressive.
I want to be clear this is just my opinion and isn't a complaint about "difficulty". Difficulty is one of the main things that make these games so amazing, but once you figure out a strategy and can implement it the feeling of accomplishment is addictive.
But the strategies I develop for the TRC are just to keep separating enemies and taking a lot of time waiting for my turn to strike. Which is pretty boring on my part.
I know the game is a few years old but is this something the community felt at all at release?
