Honestly, how did the difficulty of the Dark Souls series get so hyperbolized

Now I'm not saying the game isn't difficult, it definitely is challenging at some boss fights, but in comparison to a lot of titles (especially older ones) it doesn't really make any huge leaps. I don't think Ive ever had a part get me stuck for more than a day but Ive played turn based RPGs that made me completely give up before

Also, do people still talk about the difficulty of souls as much as back in the day? If I had a nickle for every person whose said "Dark Souls is one of the worlds hardest games" I'd probably have, I dunno, a dollar
