I accidentally posted this the Dark Souls subreddit, so Im moving it to here, feel free to tell me what you think!
I don't ever post on Reddit so I hope someone likes what Ive put together So alot of people argue that we have nothing to go on that letting the Fire fade is necessarily the bad thing to do, but when the Ashen One steps into a time rift (I guess) through the Untended Graves and goes back in time to a time when the fires had faded, a Champion named Gundyr attempted to link the Flame to escape the darkness that now surrounded the world, but he met "A bonfire with no keeper, and a bell that would not ring" because Lothric didnt link the flame, he wasnt a Lord of Cinder (Don't argue this, I wont find the descriptions but Lothric and his brother shirked their duties and you had to take their place, also he never had a lord of Cinder form). So when you get there, it turns out you set everything in motion by pinning Champion Gundyr into the ground so that he gets to test you in the sometime future as Ludex (Judge) Gundyr. If you watch the intro you can see the skies are parting the darkness in every scene that Lords are waking. My one question, who rung the bell and how?
Oh but my point is the Age of Dark might be bad because its also the Age of the Abyss and you can see that Gundyr is clearly taken by Abyss before you reach him, so how is it that hes trying to link the fire? Im thinking the Undead master the Abyss in the Age of Dark and still want to escape it, so I guess linking the flame is still the "good" thing to do, if you're going by what we humans would PREFER living in. Let me know what you think! I dont see too many explanations about Untended Graves, and Ive NEVER seen anyone mention that the world was dark when the DS3 intro starts, and if anyone can explain who rung the bell I'd love to discuss it
Sorry for having to reupload this
EDIT Im glad people are taking the time to check this out! Of course I want to add that nothing is certain, and our little penumbra is a mysterious and mystical world indeed, and that I could be 100% wrong but we'll never know without flipping every pebble and questioning it
