What is the phycology of going to undeadburg vs blightown?

I have been watching allot of people try out dark souls 1 for the first time and noticed something. It seems allot of players first thoughts when they get to fire link and hear they have to ring two bells of awakening most want to go "down below" to blightown instead of going up to the undead church. With this in mind I'm just wondering what you guys think about the phycology of always wanting to go down first instead of up. Just something that's been on my mind
