Black Knight halberd stat requirements

I'm kinda new to dark souls and I just got the black knight halberd and I looked the at the wiki to check what stats I need to properly wield it and the site said says I have to have 22 strength to use it but my guy still stumbles when he stabs it, is the stat requirements higher? and if so by how much?
