Any way to ascend a second weapon?

Hey guys, I'm on my first play through of the game and was wondering if this is possible. I have a 10 claymore and also upgraded the silver knight striaght sword to 5, and I'm likeing the straight sword a lot.
Is there any way I can upgrade it to a 10 and continue with it as my main weapon?
Edit: Ok, I was under the impression that embers were consumed since I couldn't upgrade my straight sword anymore, thanks guys.
