What’s the best way to make a phone as untraceable as possible

Probably didn’t use the right words but I’m trying to make a Verizon phone anonymous as possible. I’ve read some but can’t really find anything thats helpful. I’m thinking root, DNS servers and imei.
Probably a stupid question but trying to start something new. Any suggestions or tips would be much appreciated
