I've read a theory that the tripping fanservice scenes were actually purposeful on Mikans part in order to garner attention and sympathy from her classmates, which I actually really like. There's some evidence in the game to back this up as well, as it's noted at least once that she ends up in far too compromising positions to be completely accidental.
