Step by step , cutting and divided my Dahlia tubers with pictures.

- You don't need the stems, and it is better to divided in few tubers because it will get more bloom and plants you have.
- The stems should be white in the center and should be very firm and hard, the first thing is finding the older tubers from last year and cut off it, usually you see in the middle, the color is a bit dark and old . and also to cut off all the root or " mouse tail " those are not developed tuber are useless, you only need to save the necessary things, all the broken tubers, broken "neck" or twisted tubers or soft and spongy tubers are useless in this point, anything have wound or broken all are useless to keep.and i have 3 tools to help me . I sometimes use a wet clothes to wipe it before i started .
- When you cut your Dahlia, prepare a alcohol 70% of you tools , the stem should be still juicy inside, in the picture i have two stems and I cut to the very end, and i exam all the tubers .
- After exam , these are the tubers are healthy and worth to keep it, they all firm and not spongy and all not injured and all connected to the stem and not broken.
- I used a very sharp knife to cut in the middle of one of the stem .
- Some people asked how much stem you need it ? The answer is the less the best, in the picture you can see the tuber is connect to the stem and i only need a little part which is where the eyes are form .
- The remaining of the stem is useless, you only need just a slightly piece and the rest is useless and you don't want to keep them .
- I sometimes a bit lazy i don't divided all tubers and some are so hard to cut, especially if the stem is small, so at least i have 5 tubers now .
- I will wrap them in a seran wrap and covered by paper and burry them in a woodchip or vermiculite in a laundry basket, i will check every two weeks and the temperature is lower then 10C but higher then 3C .
