I'm a father, and just like a mom its a thankless job. Seeing all you guys love your kids so much makes me so happy. I myself never had a father, so I just need you guys to know how, important you are. I'm sure you have all heard this, but I had for 20 years a giant hole in the pit of my being. An emptiness that came from never even seeing my dad (I had one picture of him with his head turned, when he was holding me at 1 month). He didn't die, he's just a dead beat. But now I don't notice that hole anymore. I had my son 06/03/2011, he's a little over a year.
I know it can be hard sometimes being the dad, you feel pressure to provide (even if you're not the provider). You have this little being looking up at your every move. This has been a dream of mine. I wanted to break the chain before it started, I look at my son and everyday I think how lucky I am. You other Dads just need to know. The job you have now, is the most important job you will ever have. Thank you for sacrificing a bit of yourself for your child. They don't know what's it like to not have a father, they don't have that hole, because you are there, and they know you love them. I know how that feels, so from someone who knows what it's like to never have someone to call dad, thank you so much for being one, and making this world a better place.
[Edit: I appreciate all the love from you guys. To clarify slightly I did mean the literal form of thankless. When I come home from work, and he see's me gets an instasmile and gives me a hug (very loving for 13 months), you all are right there is nothing better. I just wanted to bring a different perspective to any dads, new, on the edge, or just in general, to know how important they are, and to thank them for it, because every real dad likes to/should hear it]
