Hey everyone, I'm new around here. I've been lurking in this sub for a few months. I myself am Cypriot but was raised outside of Cyprus. I learned a bit about our history from going to Greek school, but I'll admit I don't know an extensive amount about it. Plus it's been over 30 years since I've been to a history class. It's my fault, I know, but I'm not really a history buff, if I'm honest.
I wanted to know your opinions on the British bases in Cyprus. Do you think they play a valuable role of protection against foreign invasion or are they just a covert way to try to control our land without using outward force? Personally, I think that since Cyprus has joined the EU and we have the protection of the other EU countries, I dont think we need the bases here. Plus, Turkey who is our biggest threat aims to join the EU, so I don't think they would risk causing another war with us. Am I naive to think this way?
What do you all think about the British Forces and bases on our island? Do you want them gone or would you prefer their protection?
