Chain / chain ring technical question

Hi guys have a recently purchased mtb (about 150ks on it) and have recently washed the bike over after a gravel session. I degreased the chain and washed it (on the bike) dried it and re applied lube but it is still feeing really gritty and does not shift smoothly. Any recommendations what might be the cause I don’t really want to rip the chain off entirely but if it comes it will do so.
