I had the reps recommend me bikes since I'm new and want to get into cycling. I'm 5"4F.
The Kona Dew Plus, Small, was recommended ($800CAD), at a small size for me at the first dealership. Thoughts: The frame felt like an exact fit for me. When pressing down on the pedal my leg was at 135 degree angle, more of a bend in my knee.
Then I went to another shop and got suggested the Cannondale Quick 5 ($850CAD). More expensive by around $50CAD before taxes. Fit: Medium size felt bigger, like I had more room and kinda liked the extra space. Though that might mean I have less control with a bigger frame than I would with a smaller frame.
They both felt okay, but the second rep was nicer in answering my questions, which changed my mind about the Kona (first suggestion).
No plans to add any fancy accessories over the bare minimum (fenders, lights). I like that both have the hydraulic brake but noticed that it's harder to switch gears on the front derailleur on the Kona. Heard tires are important. Per internet, Kona: Schwalbe Road Cruiser K-Guard 700/650 ; and Cannondale: Schwalbe Spicer, 700x35c
Your level of experience with cycling - Beginner
What's your price range, and have you considered second hand? - New only because I wouldn't know how to assess second hands.
Price range under $800 CAD.
What's your intention with the bike - commuting, fitness, touring, sport, etc? - Commuting mainly but may go off-road - want something mostly road but can take a little bit of off-road exploring ;-)
How far will you be riding, and how often? Less than 50km one way, riding probably starting out once a week.
Riding conditions: roads, pavement, trails, single-track, off-road? Flat or hilly? Traffic and weather. - mostly wet roads, occasionally trail (off-road). Some hills, mostly flat.
Thoughts welcome.
