I have been road bicycling for the past year since I discovered that it knee is unable to support running. I am not new to long distance nutrition needs after having run several half marathons.
The longest I have ridden my bike is 42 miles for about 3 hours. I try to snack regularly (at least once an hour with 100 calories). However, when I stop riding I tend to feel sick. I will feel nauseous and I donโt want to eat much. This happened occasionally after running. I also have a higher likelihood of having acid reflux.
I started trying to also hydrate with electrolyte mixes on top of the snacks. I recently got a new bike and, after 2.5 hours on it with regular snacks (a waffle and some gummies), plus about 38 oz of fluids with electrolytes I felt okay. However, yesterday I did about 1.5 hours on just electrolytes and water and I felt like crap afterwards.
I am not sure, but my suspicion is that Iโm not getting enough electrolytes and not consuming enough. However, I have tried to make changes over the past year with limited success. Have others faced similar issues? What has worked for you? What am I doing wrong?
