Microsoft Word file I downloaded on my phone went missing. Should I be alarmed and on the watch for viruses?

I downloaded this Word file my teacher made for her students but when I downloaded it, nothing shows up. So I deleted the file and tried to download it again and this time, it worked. But after it, I can no longer find the file in my files manager and it only appears in the Word app. Should I be alarmed? Did I download a malware of sorts? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Forgot to mention my phone is an android Samsung.
