Question about power.

I decided on using an old 1989 VTech Talking Scholar as the shell for my deck. However due to the size of the internal well of it I picked out a small 5x5 mobo. Being DC powered, could I plug in a DC battery system to it for portable use? I assume I can since the battery pack I have in mind is listed for 12 hours of use. Power isn’t my strongest set of knowledge.
