with the recent previews of the multiplayer-centric lands, what are peoples thoughts on this as an ongoing design mechanic?

stictly im trying to work out how to balance it. for example, i would love to include in a custom cube a gaes cradle, or a lotus. with the caviate of "costs X more if 2 or less players". what do you guyts think of this design point? on the one hand i love it as a avenue for a reprint of reserve cards, but on the other hand, i feel its just a weak cop out.
